Musk’s Space X beats Bezos’ Blue Origin in Nasa contest for $2.9bn moon lander deal – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Nasa awarded Elon Musk’s space firm SpaceX a $2.9 billion contract to build a spacecraft to bring astronauts to the moon as early as 2024, the agency said on Friday.
Musk’s Starship — the futuristic, shiny steel rocketship that’s been launching and exploding in Texas — beat out landers proposed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and Dynetics, a subsidiary of Leidos. Bezos and Musk were competing to lead humankind’s return to the moon for the first time sine 1972. Nasa has said at least one of the first moonwalkers since 1972 would be the first woman on the moon. “Nasa Rules!!” Musk said ted after the announcement.
