Twitter Faceoff: Rutgers University backs ‘controversial’ historian Audrey Truschke, Netizens react – Times of India

NEW DELHI. Several students of Rutgers University recently petitioned against Professor Audrey Truschke, who teaches South Asian History at Rutgers Newark, asking the university to take strong actions against her for making several ‘bigoted’ and ‘fictitious’ claims.

The university, however, rejected the demands via its official Twitter handle and backed Trushcke ’emphatically’ for what it believed to be her academic freedom in pursuing scholarship.

This was followed by a meltdown of sorts by many Indian Twitter users, who took to the micro-blogging platform, to react to Rutgers-Newark’s tweet.

There were some who stood in support of Audrey and Rutgers.

Many others used hashtag #RacistRutgers to express their views

‘Audrey is an accomplished scholar’

Some users tagged Indian ministry of external affairs, asking them to blacklist Rutgers
